  • Do NASM, ACSM, IFPA, NAFC and others accept ACE and AFAA credits?"
AFAA accepts petitions for non-approved courses/events for a nominal fee: $25 per course, $25 per event. fitness.edu™ Symposiums are events. NASM approved courses now available through fitness.edu NASM courses not approved can be petitioned for a $25 fee. ACSM asks that you retain your Certificate of Completion forms showing event and CECs as proof if you are ever audited - no fee. IFPA asks you to submit Certificate of Completions and copies of outlines - $20 fee. NAFC has a petition form under their CEC/Recertification tab - $25. • What are Instructor Specialty Certifications?
Specialty Certifications are now the trend in the fitness industry. Traditional certifications such as ACE and AFAA Group Exercise and Personal Trainer certifications offer a broad range of fitness and health education including kinesiology, physiology, anatomy in addition to training in building effective fitness classes of all kinds and/or individual programs for Personal Training clients. Instructor Specialty Certifications focus on specific fitness formats such as Water/Aqua, Spinning/cycling, Tabata, TRX, Pilates, Yoga, Boot Camp and Zumba (a license, not a certification) to name a few. Specialty Certifications typically require or encourage their certified professionals to have a traditional certification such as ACE or AFAA among others, or to pursue one, for the expertise they offer in knowledge of human anatomy and safety of movement and fitness endeavors. Specialty Certifications tend to focus their training on their specific fitness format.
  • What do you mean by "credits"?"
Credits refer to Continuing Education Credits, "CECs", or Continuing Education Units, "CEUs", which are required for recertification of fitness professionals. fitness.edu™ Symposiums provide "Credits" for our events. If your certification organization is not listed, you can petition for credit approval with your organization for a nominal fee.
  • My certification organization is not listed - can I still get my credits?
Yes! ACE and AFAA credits especially, are typically accepted by all certification organizations through petition for a nominal fee. Generally, the petition fee is for individual courses, but events typically only require one fee. fitness.edu™ Symposiums are events.
  • Why do I sometimes only receive one certificate of completion for all of the classes I attended?
So that our attendees have all the information they need for recertification in one place. In some cases, there will be just one event Course # for the entire Symposium. This form will have all the information you will need when you recertify, whether there is one course number or several. One form also shows that the Symposium is an event which makes it easier to petition your certification organization for credits if necessary. Moving forward, we will be providing one certificate of completion for Symposiums. In the event that there is a Friday night offering, attendees may receive a separate certificate of completion for the Friday night courses.
